Validation is Here – a Humbling, Yet Satisfying Couple of Weeks

What an amazing couple of weeks! From Barcelona all the way to San Francisco, we’re honored and humbled to have been tied to three major awards recognizing the imprint we’ve made in modernizing the authentication landscape. There’s no doubt that the global shift towards stronger authentication is here, and we’re thrilled to be a part of the movement. Here’s a look back at all the excitement we’ve experienced so far in 2019:

The GLOMO Awards:

This year at Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, GSMA awarded our Nok Nok S3 Authentication Suite with the Global Mobile (GLOMO) Award for Best Mobile Authentication & Security Solution. Our S3 Suite was recognized for its ability to provide MNOs with strong, multi-factor authentication that uses the mobile device and implements industry standards, including those from the Fast Identity Online (FIDO) Alliance, to eliminate phishing and man-in-the-middle attacks.

This award was an exceptional honor, validating the hard work that our engineering and product teams put in year-over-year. But we’re not done yet! As our CEO, Phillip Dunkelberger said, “This honor only makes us more eager to continue to produce the leading standards-based authentication solutions offered in the market today.”

The Cloud Security Alliance’s Decade of Vision Leadership Award:

Last week, our CEO was a recipient of the Cloud Security Alliance's (CSA) Decade of Vision Leadership Award. This award, presented at the CSA Summit at RSA Conference recognized three founding CEOs, who provided the initial startup funding, plus consistent support, mentoring, and evangelism of the CSA mission on a global basis over the last 10 years.

With over 30 years in the technology market, Phil has a broad range of experience that led him to Nok Nok. Phil was a founding CEO of CSA while leading PGP Corporation, and over the last decade, he has been a champion for ubiquitous encryption, to not only help organizations protect their information, but also to accelerate the exchange of trusted information to transform business. He has supported numerous industry initiatives and also played a role in launching the FIDO Alliance, tackling the difficult problem of online identities and strong authentication.

Jim Reavis, CEO of CSA, said it best when he noted, “Successful CEOs in our industry share common traits — a sense of the magnitude of the battle we fight that supersedes any one company’s mission, a longer-term perspective than the immediacy of today, and tremendous empathy and support for the good guys in our industry.” Needless to say, Phillip’s passion bleeds into the entire company and plays a large role in the motivation of every single team member.

2019 SC Awards:

Finally, the FIDO Alliance, co-founded by Nok Nok Labs, received the prestigious honor of the 2019 SC Editor's Choice Award, presented by SC Magazine. The Alliance has made it its mission to phase out the use of outdated password technology and replace it with cryptographically secure, standards-backed authentication alternatives, such as on-device biometrics, so that users can experience a frictionless experience while still keeping their identities secure.

The concepts and technical designs behind the FIDO protocol were written and introduced by Nok Nok Labs’ founders in 2011 to address the usability, interoperability and security risks associated with the username-password scheme as a form of authentication. That’s why when FIDO officially launched the FIDO2 Project, in conjunction with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), last April and created a set of interlocking initiatives that set a FIDO Authentication standard for the web, Nok Nok was one of the first organizations in the market to offer FIDO2-certified products. We’re ecstatic to be a part of the worldwide reliance on the standard, and we are eager to continue its growth.

The past couple of weeks have truly been a testament to the dedication of the Nok Nok team to  providing the security and assurance of “right user, right device and right context.” These recognitions come on the heels of a wave of momentum from Nok Nok Labs, including commercial deployments at SoftBank to deliver strong authentication to more than ten million mobile subscribers, as well as with MUFG Bank, and a recently announced partnership with MTRIX GmbH. We’re incredibly humbled to see our hard work pay off, and we’re looking forward to continuing this momentum through the rest of 2019 and beyond!
